W. Frank Witherell was a native of De Peyster, New York, and a graduate of West Point. After the Civil War, he became a wholesaler of animal hides and leather in association with his uncle, William H. H. Witherell. Both Witherells were involved in the mining of gold, silver, and copper in Arizona, California, and Colorado, through the Arivaca Mill Company. Mss. 1498, 1503, 1555, 1776.
