Meet LSU Libraries graduating students

LSU Libraries is the largest academic employer on campus, hiring about 150 students per semester. Every year in May, we wave goodbye to a group of dedicated student employees and graduate assistants. These students come from different academic backgrounds and assist faculty and staff throughout different departments. Their contributions are essential and greatly appreciated.

Below are just a few of the 2017 graduates who worked for the LSU Libraries this year. Congratulations!

Adrian Vallejo

Losing my mind one tweet at a time Major: Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication Title:  Student Assistant for Director of Library Communications & Publications Supervisor: Sigrid Kelsey Hometown: Tegucigalpa, Honduras How has working at LSU Libraries helped you? The library provided me with hands-on industry experience. My job here was like an internship. I learned how to work under deadlines and run social media accounts. Above all, I value the amazing people I met while working here. I had a great time working with everyone. What’s your favorite library moment? I would say when I moved from my cubicle downstairs to the Dean's Office. They provided me with a desk with a great view. I spent a lot of time looking through my window! Lydia’s food was one of my favorite things too!

Emily Palermo

Digitizing materials one collection at a time Major: Bachelor of Arts in English Title: Student Assistant at Digital Services Supervisor: Gabe Harrell Hometown: Baton Rouge, Louisiana How has working at LSU Libraries helped you? Working at Middleton has enabled me to become familiar with the different systems that have been vital in the pursuit of my degree as well as putting me into contact with the amazing people that work there. I couldn’t have chosen a better place to be a student worker. What’s your favorite library moment? My favorite library moment has to be when I got stuck in the library all day, after a massive storm swept through campus. After that, all my classes got canceled.

Alvaro Angulo

Helping students keep true to real music Major: Doctor in Musical Arts Title: Graduate Assistant for Music Resources Supervisor: Mikel LeDee Hometown: Cartagena, Colombia How has working at LSU Libraries helped you? I would run out of space listing all the great things I’ve gotten out from being a GA at the Music Library. Most importantly, I cherish all the great people I’ve met working here. What’s your favorite library moment? When I was invited to perform cello solo for the Open House.

Cynthea Corfah

Feeding LSU's bookworms Major: Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication Title: Student Assistant at the Access Services Supervisor: Elissa Plank Hometown: Washington D.C. How has working at LSU Libraries helped you? Working at the library has taught me about all the resources a library (as historical as Middleton) has to offer, helped me develop professional conversational skills and helped me to time manage. I've made many friends at Middleton and it'll always be one of my favorite places from my college memories. What’s your favorite library moment? I have so many favorites! I guess it'd be between decorating the circulation desk on the first floor for the Halloween decorating contest or the occasional nights I'd work late with some of my coworkers and we'd share stories and make each other laugh.

Mikaela Allen

Freezing in the dark-dim basement Major: Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and Social Sciences Title: Student Assistant at Digital Services Supervisor: Gabe Harrell Hometown:  Logan, Utah How has working at LSU Libraries helped you? Without my library job, I would not have been able to afford college. Working in the summers and during breaks provided an enormous benefit, but the best thing about working in the library is the flexibility. After working with great people for four years in the digital services department, I feel prepared to flash my resume at every library on campus when I attend graduate school this fall. If you work hard, you will be rewarded. The skills you gain here will benefit you for years to come. What’s your favorite library moment? Having to rescue a friend from the emergency stairwell on the second floor.

Rachel Zeringue

Trekking from PFT to Middleton, walking uphill both ways Major: Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering Title: Student Assistant at Access Services Supervisor: Elissa Plank Hometown: Mandeville, Louisiana How has working at LSU Libraries helped you? Working here has helped me learn the library's in person and online systems as well as introducing me to some amazing coworkers from all different majors. What’s your favorite library moment? Learning that the shelves for the books in the basement can be moved by a crank on the side. Also, learning how to not fall in a hole while looking for books in the basement.
