Official papers include 18 letters concerning commissary supplies in Louisiana and Texas during the Civil War. Personal papers include land deeds, receipts, and bills.   • Reilly, Robert M. Papers, 1955-1996. 9.3 linear ft. Location: UU:235-244. Native of Chicago who moved to Baton Rouge in 1962. Reilly's career in Baton Rouge centered around an interest in military history. He was also an advocate for historic sites and decommissioned ships such as the U.S.S. Kidd. Photographs, film negatives, drawings, clippings, research notes, correspondence, papers, speeches, newsletters, maps, and brochures document Reilly's research on U.S. firearms, the Civil War, and World War II naval history.   • Report of the Second Auditor of the Treasury to the Congress of the Confederate States on a Claim Presented by the State of Louisiana under the Act of Congress Approved August 30, 1861, 11 Nov. 1864. 1 item. Taylor to the Confederate Congress regarding a denied claim issued by the state of Louisiana requesting reimbursement for expenses incurred for war preparations.   • Retif, P. E. Letters, 1864. 2 items. Location: Misc:R. Confederate soldier and member of the Orleans Guard Battery during the Civil War. He became a prisoner of war and was paroled from Greensboro, North Carolina, in April 1865. Letters written to Retif's mother from Charleston, South Carolina, express concerns about his family and his views on the war. Retif also implies that the letters are being smuggled through Union-controlled areas.   • Reynès, Joseph and family. Papers, 1743-1929 (bulk 1862-1869). 624 items, 37 volumes. Location: C:87-88; P:20, OS:R. Resident of New Orleans and member of a prominent Creole family. Reynès was Justice of the Peace for the 2nd District of New Orleans and was later appointed as director of the Louisiana State Bank. Correspondence, essays, and business papers include letters describing civilian life in occupied New Orleans during the Civil War and conditions in the Confederate army. A record book describes a business venture of Polyxene Reynès. Some items in French. Letter, with free franked envelope, addressed to Mr. Bullock, mentioning Reynolds' efforts on behalf of Bullock's appointment and expressing his position against compromise with slavery. Papers are comprised of family letters; slave documents; business and miscellaneous papers. Correspondence pertains to business arrangements, cotton crops, family news, health, and slavery. The 29th Louisiana Infantry Regiment is also known as the 28th Thomas's Louisiana Infantry Regiment. Because two regiments independently formed within a few days of each other and both called themselves the 28th. Photocopies of the roster lists for 1862-1864. Collection documents Brown's early Midwest travel and imprisonment in the Civil War; life in Tensas Parish, Louisiana, and, after 1877, his work in New Orleans as an engineer. Includes correspondence and a diary of his wife, Anna Farrar Richardson. Collection contains two unique portraits (copy prints of cartes-de-visite) of James Henry Rion and Preston Rion. James Henry Rion (1828-1886) served as colonel of the 6th South Carolina Volunteers Infantry Regiment and later served as major and eventually lieutenant colonel of the 7th South Carolina Infantry Battalion during the Civil War. His son, Preston Rion (1852-1922), was postmaster of Winnsboro, South Carolina. Mss. 4549.
