Children's Warbler
Silvia childreni [now Setophaga petechia]
Folio edition, plate 35
This bird is actually a Yellow Warbler, which Audubon portrayed and identified in plate 95 as Yellow-poll Warbler. Thinking he had a new species, he named it after his friend John George Children, an influential member of the Royal Society of London, one-time librarian at the British Museum, and the editor of two scientific journals.
