Since 2013, the LSU Library and Readcube have partnered to allow the LSU community to access and order articles published in the Nature family of journals that are not subscribed to by the library. The LSU Library assumed the cost of the articles ordered.
On December 31, 2023, Readcube will discontinue this service. Readcube noted that providing resources to support the Readcube platform took away from other priorities that became increasingly more important for ReadCube.
To mitigate the discontinuation of this service, starting January 2, 2024, the LSU Library will make articles formerly available via Readcube eligible for the library’s two-hour, expedited turnaround service. Faculty and students can log onto the Interlibrary Loan Services webpage to create an interlibrary loan account and order articles. This video demonstrates the most efficient way to place a journal article request. For an expedited request, the user must choose “yes” under “Expedite Request” at the top of the Article Request page.
When choosing the expedited option, the article will be fulfilled within two hours and delivered to your interlibrary loan account. If the expedited option is not chosen, the article will arrive through our standard interlibrary loan service, usually in 24-48 hours.
The LSU Library regrets the closure of Readcube, but we hope the two-hour fulfillment of Readcube-accessed Nature articles will help make the transition a smooth one. If you have questions concerning Expedited Delivery, please contact libilb@lsu.edu.
