Expedited Article Service Instructions

Please Note: The Expedited Article Service is available to faculty and graduate students, and for certain journals only.

There are three ways to make an Expedited Article request: ScienceDirect, Discovery, or manual entry on the ILL request form.

Expedited Delivery through ScienceDirect

To begin, navigate to the ScienceDirect database using the "Databases" tab on the Libraries' homepage: www.lib.lsu.edu

Click on the ScienceDirect link:

If off-campus, you will be asked to sign in with your MyLSU credentials. Once in the ScienceDirect database, search for your article.

If the “Download PDF” option is not available for your selected article, you can order it through the Expedited Delivery service. Click the article title to go from the search results page to the article page. On the article page click the “Get Access” link at the top of the page::

Then click on the “LSU Libraries” logo that appears on the dropdown:

You will be brought to the EBSCO Full Text Finder Results page. There is a slight chance that LSU Libraries may provide access through another database, if so, alternative databases will be displayed here. If there are no alternative databases, click the “Request this item through interlibrary loan” link to proceed:

On the Interlibrary Loan Article Request form, you can choose whether or not use the Expedited Delivery service. For Expedited Service, select “Yes” from the dropdown menu. For regular ILL service, select "No." Check that the citation has imported properly and that the ISSN field contains an ISSN, which is required for expedited service. Fill in a "Need by Date." Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Submit Request."

After you submit your request, your "Outstanding Requests" will display. If you chose to expedite the request and the title qualified, the "Status" column will read "Routed to Expediated ILL Service." If you did not choose to expedite or your request did not qualify, the "Status" column will read "Routed to Standard ILL Service"

When your article arrives, you will receive an email with a link to your ILL account. On the left menu, click "Articles Recieved" to view your article.

Using Expedited Delivery through Discovery Search

The Discovery Search is found on the LSU Libraries homepage: https://www.lib.lsu.edu/  Seach using the options on the homepage or click "Advanced Search" to perform a more complex seach. If you are off-campus, you will be prompted to sign in with your My LSU username and password:

When you locate an article that is unavailable through LSU Libraries', you will see a “Request through LSU interlibrary loan” link instead of an article download link. Click on the link:

On the Interlibrary Loan Article Request form, you can choose whether or not to use the Expedited Delivery service. For Expedited Service, select “Yes” from the dropdown menu at the top of the page. Using Expedited Delivery through Interlibrary Loan Service

You can request expedited delivery by manually entering a request into your Interlibrary Loan account. To access your ILL account, click on the Interlibrary Loan icon on the Libraries' homepage:   https://www.lib.lsu.edu/

On the Interlibrary Loan Services page, click “Access my ILL Account”. This will prompt you for your MyLSU username and password:

Once logged in, click "Article” on the sidebar under the heading “New Request.”

On the Article Request. If you would like to choose the Expedited Delivery service, please select “Yes” from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Fill in the required fields, marked with an asterisk. Please note that an ISSN is required for the Expedited service. Click "Submit Request" at the bottom of the form when complete.
