In order to facilitate file transfer from LAN computers (the Windows 2000 Workstations) to the web server, SAMBA has been installed on the web server. SAMBA, along with the network logon scripts, creates a "shared drive", N:, to the user's home folder. The advantages include: authentication done by the LAN Server thereby eliminating Origin password changes, no software installation on the client systems (your workstations), and the same-old Explorer Window user interface providing the drag-and-drop, as well as CTRL-C/CTRL-V, functionality.
IMPORTANT!!
Be sure to keep in mind that editing files directly from the N: drive provides no buffer to the web site itself. SO... any file changes will be immediately visible from the web. The recommended practice remains copying the file to your C: or G: drive to edit.
Shortcuts from the home directory:
As a rule the directories visible from your home directory (N:) are shortcuts to directories elsewhere on the web server.
If these shortcuts do not provide the path you require, the "web-docs"
shortcut/directory provides a path to the base of the libraries' web server. If
you're still unable to locate the desired file, please contact
Brian.
