Computer Security

Here's what you can do to help with computer security in the Libraries:

Computers in Public Areas

We try to make these as secure as possible, so that patrons can't change settings, but some students are just very creative. If you see a machine with a problem, do a Start Menu/ Shutdown/ Restart. Call Tom or Brian if that is not sufficient to resolve the problem.

Computers in Staff Areas

  • Remember to log off and shut down your PC when you leave for the day.

  • Even when you are just stepping out for a few minutes, you can make your PC more secure. Press CTRL+ALT+Delete and then click Lock Workstation. When your return, you can unlock it by pressing CTRL+ALT+Delete again and entering your LAN password.

  • Remember not to share any passwords, and don't post them on or around your desk anywhere visible. If you have to write your password down, please put it somewhere that is not easy for a visitor to find, like your wallet.

  • Remember to report problems, or suspected use by unknown persons, to Library Systems.
