Mainframe Accounts/IDs



Access to Mainframe Resources

If you or one of your employees need access to one of the administrative systems on the mainframe, contact the Assistant Dean for Library Systems who will assist with the following request process.

Requesting An Account

In order to be assigned a mainframe logonid, you must be an LSU faculty or staff member or an LSU graduate student, and your employment appointment must be current in the university's HRM database. Contact the Libraries' Coordinator of Personnel Services to find out if your form is current.

To obtain a mainframe logonid, go to the following page and click on the link to the PAWS request form. Once the account has been created, notify the Assistant Dean for Library Systems who will assist with additional forms to be submitted to request access to a specific administrative system within IMS, such as ETA, GLS, HRM, SRR, TRE, etc.

Changing Passwords

Mainframe passwords must be changed approximately every 30 days.

Known password: When you log on to the mainframe, you have three lines to enter information. The first is for your ID. The second is for your password. The third is to enter a new password if you need to change yours. After you enter a new password, the system will bring back the same screen and ask you to confirm you new password by typing it in again (this to make sure you do not have any spelling mistakes). When you press "Enter" the system will either tell you that your password has been successfully changed, or that your new password was not confirmed. If the latter occurs, go back and fill in the three blanks again until you get the success message. Note: You only get 6 tries before the account is locked out.

Forgotten password: Use the Password Management system in PAWS to change your LSUMVS password.

Account Suspension or Cancellation

If you have suspended your account, call the Help Desk or the Assistant Dean for Library Systems. If you contact the Help Desk, they may request that you visit the Help Desk in person and show identification to prove that the account is yours.

In addition to password problems, a mainframe account may be cancelled or suspended for the following reasons:

  • Inactivity: Any logonid that has not been accessed in a certain amount of time will be suspended for inactivity. For logonids that have never been accessed, that time limit is about 25 days. For logonids that have been accessed at least once, that time limit is 60 days. This process is performed daily. The time limits are subject to refinement.
  • HRM Separation: Any logonid assigned to an individual in LSU's HRM data base (paid by LSU Payroll) will be cancelled when that individual is no longer in the database as a current employee. This process is performed daily.
