Byars birth date and place, father's occupation; family ancestry; attending LSU; joining the National Guard; crossing the English channel; General Middleton; the battle over the bridge at Remagen and the collapse of the Remagen bridge; fighting in the Herken Forest; finding bodies of American soldiers who had been shot and buried by the Germans; finding barracks that had been set on fire with bodies of soldiers in them; when he heard the war was over; coming home and landing in New York City; removing wounded from front in the Herken Forest; rebuilding roads after the end of the war; attending meetings with other World War II veterans.
