The Rare Book and Associated Collections

Chess | Crawfish | Lincoln | Poker & Hoyle

The Rare Book Collection brings together materials that are rare, valuable, or otherwise in need of special handling or protection. Wide-ranging and eclectic in nature, it has concentrations in eighteenth-century British history and literature, New World exploration and travel, economic history (from the library of Richard T. Ely), and science fiction and fantasy (from the library of Clarence John Laughlin). Fine printing and book design are well represented, most notably in comprehensive collections of Circle Press, Janus Press, and the work of Bruce Rogers.

For additional information about the Rare Book Collection contact Elaine Smyth at (225) 578-6552 (esmyth@LSU.EDU).
