The American Psychological Association (APA) was founded at Clark University
in 1892 for the advancement of psychology as a science. The association
was incorporated in 1925 in Washington, DC. The APA is the largest scientific
and professional organization representing psychology in the United States
and is the world's largest association of psychologists. The APA's membership
includes more than 155,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants,
and students. Through its divisions in 50 subfields of psychology and affiliations
with 59 state, territorial, and Canadian provincial associations, APA works
to advance psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of
promoting human welfare. Division 40 (Clinical Neuropsychology) petitioned
for recognition in 1995, and was sanctioned in 1996.
Archival records of Division 40 (Clinical Neuropsychology) of the American
Psychological Association include Division policy documents, minutes of
meetings, committee reports, significant correspondence, newsletters, and
other printed material.

Division 40. Topics include executive committee meetings, annual meetings,

of the Division 40 newsletter and of Neuropsychology; committees in the
APA; training programs; membership issues; budgets; prescription privileges;
the definition of a Clinical Neuropsychologist; the History of American
