BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE
Charlotte Cheney McMorran, 1900 – 1991, was born and died in Port Huron, MI. The daughter of David Williams and Charlotte Cheney Holden McMorran, Charlotte enjoyed the privileged live of the upper class, attended the Liggett School, Detroit, and Pine Manor. She was then sent abroad to ―finish‖ her education.
In her twenties, Charlotte spent a few years in Europe, mostly in France, where she befriended the artist / architect Henri Walbert (author of Residences et plantations dans la vallée de l'Ohio et du Mississipi au début du XIXème siècle, 1948) and his wife, Line. Henri and Line are pictured in the photographs.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection consists of a mix of gelatin silver prints and photographic postcards documenting New Orleans, plantation homes and grounds in Louisiana and Mississippi, scenes along the Mississippi River, and scenes in Kentucky. Most of the images include holographic information, verso, in English and French.
