BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE
A. M. Bernard, a businessman and carriage maker in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, operated the A. M. Bernard Wagon Works in New Iberia, ca. 1886-1958.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The collection contains business correspondence, legal papers, financial papers, contracts, and business records related to the operation of the A. M. Bernard Wagon Works and other Bernard family financial concerns including a syrup plant, oil and gas leases, sulphur mines, land holdings, and livestock operations. Some letters pertain to family matters. Manuscript volumes contain records of the operation of the carriage factory and other family enterprises and include bank books, inventory books, order books, journals, cash books, ledgers, account books and other miscellaneous volumes. The collection also contains a broadside soliciting funds for Methodist Episcopal missionary activities in Africa, and a map (1885) of Louisiana by the Bureau of Immigration.
