Edgar Godbold was born in Auburn, Mississippi, on December 2, 1879, and received his bachelor’s (1905) and master’s (1910) degrees from Mississippi College. In addition to his graduate work there, he also attended the University of Chicago (1906-1907). In 1912 Godbold was named executive secretary of the Louisiana Baptist Education Commission, a position he held until 1918. In 1919 he was named Corresponding Secretary of the Executive Board of the Louisiana Baptist Convention. In addition to this, he taught biology at Louisiana College (in Pineville, La.), served as president of Howard Payne College in Texas (1923-1929), president of Louisiana College (1942-1951), and president of the Louisiana Baptist Convention (1950-1951). He died on November 21, 1952.
