BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

Dr. William G. Haag, Jr., was born in Kentucky and educated at the University of Kentucky and the University of Michigan, where he received his doctorate in ethno-zoology (1948). His professional career as an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Kentucky was interrupted by World War II, during which time he served in the U. S. Air Corps and Signal Corps as a 1st Lieutenant. After teaching for a few years (1949-1952) at the University of Mississippi, Haag went to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he spent the remainder (1951-1978) of his academic career. His archaeological field experiences include work in Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Georgia, the French Antilles, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Louisiana. Haag was Louisiana's State Archaeologist from 1972-1977. He has authored a number of publications.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The papers consist of book reviews and reprints of articles published in the Southeastern Archaeological Conference Newsletter (1940, 1951-1952) and other publications (1953-1965). Also included are three volumes of Reports in anthropology published by the University of Kentucky (1940, 1947), and a copy of Models for educational change in which Haag contributed a chapter, “The Nature of Culture” (1968).
