The Women's Social Industrial Association was established in 1881 as a non-sectarian society to promote women's industries, and to benefit its members in Carrollton and New Orleans. This collection records the expenses, activities and interests of the Carrollton, Louisiana association through 1899.
Bookkeeping journals, meeting minutes, and a pamphlet of the association constitution and bylaws document the organization's activities. Also included are receipts and an unidentified and undated photograph.
This collection involves bookkeeping and activities of the Women’s Social Industrial Association. Financial papers include two cash receipts from Jefferson City Gas Light Co. (1894) and a receipt from Vic. Young & Co. (1892). Other papers, such as notes concerning corrections to minutes and collection of dues (1899) are included, as is a postal card from the Board of Managers of Shakespeare Alms House asking for donations (1899), an unidentified photograph of a woman (undated), and a printed pamphlet of the Charter, Constitution, and By-laws of the Women’s Social Industrial Association of New Orleans (New Orleans: T.H. Thomason, Printer, 1881). Manuscript volumes include a Journal (Vol. I) listing expenses of the charity committee (1889-1895) and five manuscript volumes containing minutes from the organization’s meetings for the following dates: Vol. II: Jan. 18, 1881-Mar. 29, 1882 Vol. III: Apr. 5, 1882-Oct. 7, 1884 Vol. IV: Oct. 7, 1884-Dec. 21, 1886 Vol. V: Dec. 28, 1886-Jan. 2, 1889 Vol. VI: June 1, 1897-May 23, 1899
