Ernest Lee Jahncke (1877-1960), Rear Admiral Naval Reserve, was the assistant secretary of the Navy during the Herbert Hoover administration, 1929-1933. He was a graduate of Tulane University, president of Jahncke Interests, New Orleans and first executive director of the Louisiana State Department of Commerce and Industry, 1937-1941. He was also an administrator of Tulane University Education Fund and one the South’s leading yachtsmen and prominent clubman.
The Ernest Lee Jahncke, Sr., Papers contain correspondence, speeches, photographs, clippings, printed material, and scrapbooks documenting his service with the U.S. Navy and as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and his participation with New Orleans Carnival, the International Olympic Committee, and the Louisiana Department of Commerce and Industry.
