BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

The Carrollton Centennial Exhibit, titled “From Neighbor to Neighborhood,” was prepared by Robert Kottwitz Advertising firm for the Carrollton Branch of the Whitney National Bank of New Orleans. The exhibit pertains to Carrollton, Louisiana, formerly a part of Jefferson Parish and later incorporated into the city of New Orleans in 1874.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection consists of photocopies of historic materials gathered for the exhibit. These include maps, photographs, petitions, reports, city ordinances, and regulations and orders relating to the New Orleans and Carrollton Railroad, the Carrollton Hotel and Gardens, public schools, homes, fire companies, Federal occupation, and roads in the area. The collection also contains a petition to the mayor and city council, ca. 1849, concerning the acquisition of land for the new Carrollton levee.

Originals of some of the materials (1867) are found in the Pierre G.T. Beauregard and Family Papers, Mss. 601.
