Edward R. Poole (b. 1820) was a New Orleans, Louisiana, commission merchant from Maine.
Directory (1846-1903), newspaper clippings (1885-1903), and ephemera compiled by Poole and probably some member of his family. The directory lists, by state and foreign country, the names and addresses of commission and lumber merchants, flatboat traders, ship chandlers, sea captains, planters, lawyers, and relatives; it furnishes some physical identification of each individual listed and frequently mentions the nature of business transacted. Newspaper clippings cover topics such as the Protestant Episcopal Church, Presbyterian ministers, Theodore Roosevelt, and the Spanish American War; obituaries of prominent persons; and printed letterheads and business cards, also arranged by state, are part of the directory.
