Cotton broker, planter, and owner of D'Evereaux Hall, Natchez, Miss. Among other properties in Adams County, Miss., he also owned Saragossa Plantation, which Stephen Duncan established in the 1820s. He was the third husband of Anna Frances Conner Bell Ruffin (1804-1876), daughter of William and Mary Savage Conner of Berkeley Plantation, Adams County.
Papers include an indenture made by Stephen Duncan and his wife, Catherine, Adams County, with William St. John Elliot, Wilkinson County, for the sale of Saragossa Plantation, formerly part of the Bradley Tract, Adams County, Miss. (1835). Also included are a deed for a sale of land in Adams County by Samuel A. Moore to Elliot (1838) and a copy of a deed for a sale of land by Henry Chotard to Elliot (1850). A sketch shows the plantation of Mrs. Anna F. Elliot situated in Tensas Parish, La., as surveyed by William G. Waller (December 1858) and a plat of land between Second Creek and White’s Creek belonging to the estate of the late William Conner provides names and acreage of owners (copied July 27, 1824).
