BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

The Grand Isle Hotel was situated in Grand Isle, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, and was probably owned by John F. Kranz, the president of the Crescent City Ice Company of New Orleans, Louisiana.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection includes of a cashbook (1895-1896), a ledger (1895), a guest register (1895-1898), bills, and receipts of the hotel. The cashbook (1879-1887) of John F. Kranz contains accounts with fishing boats (or "smacks") and fish dealers, chiefly for red snapper, and related accounts of expenses for fishing gear, bait, ice, ship stores, repairs to smacks, and related items and services. Loose items include an inventory of furnishings for a hotel.

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Loose items consist of a statement from R. Jene, fish dealer, New Orleans to John Krantz for a shipment of goods received from sloop Charles Henry (1887), bills and receipts addressed to Grand Isle Hotel, John F. Krantz, and O.T. Maier (1895), and an inventory of furnishing for a hotel (undated).
