BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

Evans, H.D., Private, Company A, 9th Louisiana Infantry was born in Alabama, and enrolled March 4, 1862, in Homer, Louisiana.

According to Leroy A. Stafford (Colonel 9th Louisiana Infantry)'s List of Field Officers, Regiments, and Battalions in the Confederate States Army, 1861-1865, Evans is listed as the following: Present for May and June 1862, absent, sick from July 1862 to December 1863, absent without leave January and February 1864, present May 1864 to October 1864, paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, April 10, 1865, and resident of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, as occupational farmer and single.

Letter from H. Evans, private, Company A, 9th Louisiana Infantry, Stafford's Brigade, commenting on the activities of his friends in the Confederate Army and in particular the courtesies received by a soldier in a hospital at Richmond, Va., from the wives of staff officers.
