BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

Hiram T. Clary was a surgeon in the Union army during the Civil War, Illinois Infantry Volunteers, Company K, 32nd Regiment.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

Papers are comprised of recommendations and official orders of Hiram T. Clary, Company K, 32nd Regiment of Illinois Infantry Volunteers. They include a recommendation by Lieutenant Colonel William Hunter for a position as surgeon in the regiment; recommendations by officers of the 32nd Regiment for a position of 2nd assistant surgeon of regiment; an order by Colonel John Logan to report to the medical board of examiners with a view to promotion for the second assistant surgeon of the 32nd Regiment, Illinois Infantry; an order by Brig. General Lauman to Clary to report to Pioneer Corps of the 4th Division as medical officer; order to report to Vicksburg; order to report to Little Rock, Ark., for the purpose of transacting business of the Medical Department of the 46th Illinois Volunteers Infantry; and a discharge paper (1862-1864).

Also included is a notice marked Pension Office (1886) and a copy of a document admitting H.T. Clary to the degree of a Master Mason (1889).

Some documents bear the stamp: “Office of Auditor for War Department.”
