LSU is one of only seventeen universities in the country designated as both a land grant and a sea grant institution; its instructional programs comprise approximately 250 curricula. The Archives' holdings include the records of such programs as Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries; Geoscience; Landscape Architecture; Veterinary Medicine; Chemistry and Biochemistry; and Agricultural, Chemical, Electrical, and Petroleum Engineering, renowned for advancements in their respective fields. Other areas documented include the LSU Press, the Southern Review, the Center for Wetland Resources, and the Center for Energy Studies.

The University Archives also maintains the archival copies of LSU students' theses and dissertations. Paper copies are maintained in the LSU Libraries' holdings and may be found by consulting the LSU OPAC. Electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) may be accessed via the Graduate School's homepage.
