DIVISION 40 EDUCATION GOALS AND STRATEGIES
Goal 1
Continue to support the development and utilization of guidelines for
Clinical neuropsychological education and
training at the pre-doctoral, internship and post-doctoral levels
Goal 1 Specific Strategies
* Maintain and distribute list of training programs claiming to
meet guidelines, and consider obtaining and
making available information as to how guidelines
are met by various programs
* Revise guidelines regularly to ensure their continued relevance
for effective clinical practice
Goal 2
Promote effective and relevant continuing educational (CE) activities for clinical neuropsychologists
Goal 2 Specific Strategies
* Determine current continuing education needs of Division members
* When CE need exists for members, solicit and sponsor continuing
educational activities in clinical
neuropsychology. Such CE activities could
be offered at the state level, or could be developed for
presentation as part of the APA Convention
and other professional/scientific meetings
* Establish “Speakers Bureau” for continuing educational outreach
activities within the psychological
community (e.g., with other Divisions of APA,
state and other psychological associations) as well as
with other medical, legal and educational
organizations
Goal 3
Encourage and help guide the development of accreditation procedures at all levels of education and training
Goal 3 Specific Strategies
* Obtain recognition of Clinical Neuropsychology as a Specialty
within APA
* Seek representation of Clinical Neuropsychology on APA Accreditation
Committee and Board of Educational
Affairs
Goal 4
Seek inclusion of neuropsychology curriculum into pre-doctoral, internship
and post-doctoral training programs
in non-neuropsychology specialty areas (e.g., clinical)
Goal 4 Specific Strategies
* Seek representation of clinical neuropsychology on APA Board
of Educational Affairs
* Liaison activities within APA
