DIVISION 40 PRACTICE GOALS AND STRATEGIES
Goal 1
Articulate and promote ethical principles relatively specific to the practice of clinical neuropsychology
Goal 1 Specific Strategies
* Seek clinical Neuropsychology representation
on APA Ethics Committee, state regulatory/licensing boards and
voluntary credentialing boards.
* Continue to have Division 40 Ethics
Committee monitor ethical issues and principles for their relevance to
the
practice of clinical neuropsychology
* Use the Division 40 Newsletter, APA
Convention events, journal articles and inter-organizational forums to
increase membership awareness and discussion
of ethical issues
Goal 2
Promote the recognition of Clinical Neuropsychology as a Specialty by the American Psychological Association
Goal 2 Specific Strategies
* Make proactive efforts to seek specialty
recognition within APA, including appointing a committee to direct
and facilitate such actions
* Proactive efforts should include liaison
work with the members of the APA Education and Practice
Directorates and their governing boards, as
well the APA Board of Directors
Goal 3
Encourage and support efforts to determine and improve effectiveness
and quality of clinical neuropsychological
assessment/intervention procedures
Goal 3 Specific Strategies
* Cooperate with the Science Directorate?s Survey of Psychological
and Neuropsychological Test usage
* Establish a network of collaborating
laboratories with the purpose of expanding procedural norms for
neuropsychological assessment/intervention
procedures, including expanding the normative data base
for culturally diverse populations
* Through the Minority Affairs Committee
of Division 40, support the development of test norms appropriate for
ethnic minority clients (e.g., encourage members
to conduct research in these areas as well as to consult
with test publishers on such issues)
* Establish a Division 40 task force
or committee to maintain a bank of definitive neuropsychological studies
related to examining the validity and reliability
of test usage and intervention practices
* Identify submissions to the APA Annual
Convention examining issues related to effectiveness and quality of
neuropsychological assessment and intervention
procedures, and package and publicize them as key
symposia
