DIVISION 40 SCIENCE GOALS AND STRATEGIES
Goal 1
Promote the scientific study of brain-behavior relationships, and the
application of such knowledge
Goal 1 Specific Strategies
* Continue to support scientist-practitioner training of clinical
neuropsychologists
* Encourage clinical neuropsychologists to conduct research within
their practice settings
* Encourage neuroscientists and research-oriented neuropsychologists
to join and actively participate in
Division 40
* Advocate for inclusion of neuropsychology in appropriate multi-disciplinary
research projects (ex..
epilepsy research)
* Increase funding agencies? awareness and recognition of clinical
neuropsychology as a science, as well
as participation of neuropsychologists on
funding agency review committees (e.g., VA
Committees NIH study groups)
* Continue to support student research efforts, through the Program
Committee's Student Award
Program, and the development of a new Division
40 - sponsored student research grants program
Goal 2
Promote the recognition of clinical neuropsychology as a science division within APA
Goal 2 Specific Strategies
* Utilize the newly selected Division 40 Liaison to the APA Science
Directorate (Dr. Marcotte) to
promote Division 40?s science interests within
APA
* Actively seek to place Division 40 members on vital APA committees
and task forces related to
science aid research (e.g., Test Standards,
Publications/Communications)
* Network with other APA Divisions with similar science interests
to promote election of their
representatives to vital APA committees and
task forces
* Work in cooperation with other Divisions within APA towards
attaining mutually important science
goals, and in forwarding science as an area
of emphasis within APA
* In addition to submitting articles, encourage Division 40 members
to participate in APA?s and other?s
journal activities, such as serving as an
Editor or manuscript reviewer
