Dear Dr. Trenerry:
Thank you for responding to the Education Directorate request for convention program hours. The following information outlines what we have developed for this year's Miniconvention. Staff in the Education Directorate are working with members of the Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) to develop an outline for our 1996 miniconvention,Urban Initiatives: In Partnership with Education.” This letter is to let you know the status of the programs at this time, in lieu of speaking directly with you at the recently canceled Program Chairs Workshop.
The design we are developing for our miniconvention is to establish a conceptual envelope beginning with a keynote speaker to set the context and issues and concluding with a panel of distinguished psychologists, using an interactive format (i.e. using microphones so that the audience can ask questions and participate). In the middle will be the programs developed through the hours donated by APA divisions. Our proposal to the APA Convention Office is that the miniconvention take place Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10, 1996. Specific speakers and panelists will be selected at a later date.
Attached is an outline of the miniconvention programs reflecting Convention hours given to BEA as well as hours donated by APA divisions. In order to achieve the proposed miniconvention, the Directorate is seeking 2 additional hours from divisions. We would also like to cosponsor any of your division's programs which you feel are related to the miniconvention topics. The co-listed and co-sponsored sessions will be advertised in the Education Miniconvention brochure and the A?A Monitor (June,1996 issue) as part of the miniconvention. Please send this information to the attention of Chris Cubby: fax 202-336-5962; email cac.apa@email.apa.org no later than Wednesday, January 31, 1996.
