AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION
MEMORANDUM
To: Division Presidents and Presidents-elect
From: Karen M. Zager, PhD, Chair, Committee on DivisiorVAPA Relations Thomas J. Shuell, PhD, Vie-Chair, Committee on DivisionIAPA Relations
Date: July 7.1995
Subject: Update on Plans for Celebratina the 50th Anniversary of APA Divisions
Throughout 1996 APA will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of division organization within the Association. Plans for special events and convention sessions celebrating this anniversary are being organized by the Committee on Division/APA Relations (CODAPAR). CODAPAR has two meetings in the near future at which it will begin to develop plans for Association-wide activities. The first meeting will be on Friday, August 11 during the APA Convention and the second will be at its annual business meeting, September 29 through October 1. CODAPAR asks you to become involved in planning sessions and events that will make the 1996 celebration a success. Two things would be very helpful: first, put an item on your division's August agenda to discuss the celebration and gather recommendations for both division-and APA-sponsored activities, and second, send in your ideas after the convention concludes so that CODAPAR can discuss the ideas and their implementation at its September meeting. We also plan to share interesting ideas for division events with all divisions through an article in the APA/Divison Dialogue.
APA Monitor Column During 1996 the APA Monitor will feature a monthly column that focuses on divisions. CODAPAR invites your division to send in suggestions for column topics. If your division has an idea for a particularly interesting column, please let us know. The article will be written by a Monitor reporter. All that the division will need to provide is an interesting topic and a list of persons to be interviewed for the article.
Division Plaques
A number of divisions have indicated that they are indeed interested in creating a commemorative plaque of their past division presidents to be displayed in APA Central Office. The plaques will be coordinated through the Division Services Office. This will include assistance in developing a listing of the division's past presidents and formatting the plaque's header plate (including use of division and/or APA logos), placing the order with the vendor, and updating the plaque on a yearly basis.
The vendor has agreed to discount the plaque price by 10%. The cost of the plaque materials will be approximately $200, engraving costs are additional. It is estimated that the engraving cost for divisions with 50 past presidents would be approximately $75-100. More detailed information on the costs involved is presented below.
