Dear Gerry:
I am in receipt of the memo from Larry Hartlage, dated January 17, 1985, pertaining to the proposed Division 40 Board Meeting. There are several aspects of this memo that I should comment on.

(1) I am unable to attend the proposed meeting on March 6, 1985, since I have previous commitments for that day.

(2) 1 was never consulted by you or the President regarding the March 6 date or my availability to attend on that day.

(3) Why was there no information given regarding the results of the poll taken of the Division 40 Board regarding the possibility of a meeting in San Diego to coincide with the INS Meeting there? As you may be aware, Manfred Meier, Linas Bieliauskas, Kenneth Adams, Thomas Boll, and I will be in San Diego at that time; there may be other Board members who are also planning to attend. As far as I know, none of these five (or more) persons would require funds from Division 40 for the San Diego trip. Be that as it may, I find it odd that we were not apprised of the results of the poll taken by Larry Hartlage.

Finally, I must insist that I be consulted about the venue, date, and time of any proposed meeting for the Division 40 Board. You can be assured that I wi 11 bend every effort to be in attendance, and that I consider consul tat i on of this matter a right rather than a privilege.

I trust that you and/or the President of Division 40 will be in touch with me regarding this matter in the very near future.

BPR:ml cc: L. Hartlage
