Dear Dr. Adams:
The APA sponsors a computer database of dates of events in the history of American psychology.
Much of this 3000-item database was recently published by the APA in book form in A
Chronology of Noteworthy Events in American Psychology, but the database is continually being
expanded. I manage the database and would like to include dates and other details of the
founding and noteworthy events of APA Division 40. I've attached the current entries describing
the division's history.
A unique aspect of this database is that it includes full dates of events, including month, day, and
year.
If you have records or references to published accounts of the month, day, and year and other
details (names of meeting organizers, locations, first officers, etc.) of any unreported founding
events (organizing meeting, first official meeting, first convention, first newsletter or journal, first
division awards, etc.) of Division 40 I'd appreciate knowing them. Additions or corrections to
the existing entries would also be welcomed.
I'm writing to you because you represent the division on the APA Council of Representatives,
but if another person serves as the division's formal or informal historian, perhaps you could
forward this letter to them. Thank you for your help in expanding the APA Historical Database.
Sincerely,
Warren R. Street, PhD
