Re: Update for The Mid-Winter Division 40 Executive Committee Meeting
The primary focus of attention over the last six months has been directed toward the establishment of a Committee on International Relations within Division 40 and pursuit of potential avenues in which the committee might direct its efforts. Toward that end, the following has occurred:
1). An announcement was placed in the autumn division newsletter seeking names of persons who are interested in participating in the establishment and development of an international affairs committee. Several members of the constituency responded and offered a number of ideas about ways in which the proposed committee might expend its efforts. The inaugural meeting of the committee will take place at INS in Seattle. At that time, a mission statement will be drafted and goals will be identified.
2). The division liasion has contacted the program chairpersons of the 1996 INS Meeting and the 1995 Division 40 program about the possibility of setting up a pre-conference symposium devoted to international neuropsychology. At this point, it appears that neither program has the space and there is no apparent commitment to participate in such an endeavor. It is important to identify the most appropriate venue for this type of activity. Any suggestions from other members of the Executive Committee would be greatly appreciated.
Other notes of interest to Division 40 from the September 1994 CIRP Meeting in Washington, D.C.:
1). An ongoing international issues and news section in the APA Monitor has been proposed. A special section on international psychology will also appear in an upcoming American Psychologist.
2). Call for 1996-98 nominations to the CIRP came out in a recent APA Monitor. A desire was expressed to see more representation from other countries, particularly Third World countries.
3). There will be six CIRP-sponsored convention hours at the 1994 APA Convention. Anyone interested in obtaining a complete draft of minutes from this meeting can contact Dr. Heilbronner or Joan Buchanon, Director of the CIRP at APA.
