Dear Dr. Adams;

In keeping with the spirit of APA's motto to give psychology away”, Division 46, Media Psychology, wants to assist you in becoming more comfortable and effective in your interactions with the media and publicizing your areas of expertise in general. We propose to do this in the following ways:

1.) Division 46 is offering media training for print interview, TV, radio and public speaking appearances to the leadership or membership of your division, at your annual meeting. Please let us know if and when you would like us to do this with you.

2.) Division 46 can show you how to be proactive with the media and the community by preparing effective news and press releases.

We believe that what we have to offer you will strengthen your division and publicly promote the important work you do.

To help us get acquainted and start the ball rolling, we invite you to join us for a breakfast, which is co-sponsored by PIC, on Monday morning, Aug. 14th, from 9:00-l 1:00 a.m. in the Liberty 3 (APA's press room) in the Sheraton Hotel in New York City. Our meeting will include representatives of the media, elected APA officials, Division 46 Board members, PIC (Public Information Committee), and Division Presidents and President-elects. Informal networking and short presentations will help you become better acquainted with the media and assist you in getting your message out to your targeted audiences.

We invite you to send us one article describing recent research on areas of importance to your division.Members of our Division, together with the Public Affairs Office, will create a news or press release from this material. We will also have information on how to create a press release avaiiable for you at the breakfast. l'his breakfast meeting will provide you with the opportunity to publicize this information. Please mail the article to Dr. Lilli Friedland (address above). Any questions you may call me at (516)791-2780 or by fax (516)791-2568.

Please reply by July 1st if you plan to attend our breakfast and be sure your chosen article is in our hands by that date or sooner, if possible. We look forward to this opportunity to meet you and work together to inform the public about many important areas of psychology.
Sincerely yours,

Linda Sapadin, Ph.D.,
Division Liaison, Div. 46
