Dear Division Presidents and Presidents-Elect:
Since 1993, the APA Committee on Lesbian, Gay, & Bisexual Concerns (CLGBC) and the APA Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian and Gay Issues (Division 44) have sponsored a Joint Task Force on Professional Practice Guidelines for Psychotherapy with Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Clients (JTF). A status report on the Task Force is enclosed.
Because professional practice guidelines have significant implications for psychologists throughout the APA who work with lesbian, gay and bisexual clients in psychotherapy, and recognizing the importance of continuing dialogue with other APA Divisions, the JTF seeks your division 's thoughts and observations on the guidelines project. Further, we invite you or your designee to attend our APA Convention symposium and roundtable discussion Psychotherapy Guidelines with Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals: A Literature Review” which will take place at the APA Annuall Convention at 11:00 -11:50 a.m., Saturday, August 10 in the Wentworth Room, Sheraton Centre of Toronto.
In order to maintain communication with your Division, we also ask you to appoint a liaison to the JTF .Such an appointment would provide important linkages between the JTF and your Division as this project moves forward.
Finally, we want to thank you for your consideration of our proposals and the work of the JTF.
Sincerely yours,
Armand R. Cerbone, PhD, and Kristin A. Hancock, PhD Co-Chairs, Division 44/CLGBC Joint Task Force on Professional Practice Guidelines for Psychotherapy with Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Clients.
