Anthropology Subject Guide:
Get Social with Anthropologists Online

<<  Getting Involved in Anthropology

<<<  Anthropology Subject Guide

A great way to get involved with anthropology is to mingle with anthropologists online in their blogs and mailing lists. Not only can you read about new anthropology research and news, you can actively get engaged with other anthropologists.

Check out these anthropology bloggers. You will find bloggers who talk about their fieldwork, anthropology in the news, writing tips, theoretical orientations, their experiences as students, teachers and researchers, and much more.

Can I use Blogs in my Research?

Just like other resources you need to check the five criteria for evaluating resources: Accuracy and Reliability, Authority, Relevance and Comprehensiveness, Timeliness, and Objectivity.

Some blog entries will meet these criteria, others won't. If you find that a blog entry doesn't meet the criteria, but you are still interested in the subject, try emailing the author and ask if they have published anything on the topic or have any good references. Often times, you will find most anthropology bloggers extremely helpful!

If a blog entry does meet the criteria, be sure to cite it properly. Mailing lists are generally cited as personal electronic communication and blogs are cited as Electronic Sources. For information check with the appropriate style guide for your publication or class.
