CHEMISTRY LIBRARY CLOSING
The Chemistry Library will be closing its doors permanently immediately following the conclusion of the Spring Semester, 2005. The process of relocating its materials to Middleton Library, where they will be housed, has, in fact, already begun. The Chemistry Library will remain open for business in Williams Hall until 5:00p.m., May 14 (the last day of final exams), retaining its Reserves and Reference Collection until the end.
Schedule for Relocating Materials
Materials will be relocated in the following order:

Packing Schedule and Updated Status of Specific Materials
(NOTE: These lists will be updated throughout the move, so that the status of the titles involved will be as
accurate as possible on any given day. Please check with the library staff if you are unsure of the location or
availability of a sought-after title.)
Finding Aid for Chemistry Library Current Journals in Middleton -
Most regular Chemistry Library patrons are used to looking for chemistry journals according to title, yet these journals
will now be shelved according to call number order in Middleton. This list is provided as a finding aid. All
titles on the list appear in alphabetical order, each with the appropriate call number. Patrons may wish to print this
list out and bring it with them for those days when they need to browse through some of the physical journals in
Middleton.
Background Information:
The decision to close the Chemistry Library came about as the result of a couple of factors: 1) an acute shortage of chemistry lab space, and 2) the planned conversion of the second floor of Williams Hall into organic chemistry labs. The contractors responsible for the upcoming conversion of the second floor of Williams (due to begin immediately following the close of the Spring Semester in mid-May) announced that they would need to close the whole building (including the Chemistry Library) for all or most of the construction time. Because of this, it was decided simply to merge the library into Middleton permanently and let the Chemistry Department take over the third floor of Williams as well for eventual lab space.
The Chemistry Library staff, as well as the collection, will be absorbed by the main library, but will no longer function as a unit or in the same capacity. However, the Chemistry librarian, William Armstrong, will retain his duties and responsibilities in this subject area, and will continue to assist the Chemistry faculty with their information needs. Please contact him if you have any questions or concerns about the move.
