America's WETLAND is one of the largest and most productive expanses of coastal wetlands in North America. This valuable landscape extending along Louisiana's coast is disappearing at a rate of 25 square miles per year. In the largest public awareness initiative in its history, Louisiana is leading America's WETLAND: Campaign to Save Coastal Louisiana. The America's WETLAND Foundation through the Campaign is raising awareness of the impact of Louisiana's wetland loss and increase support for efforts to conserve and save coastal Louisiana.

Intra-Americas Sea Ocean Nowcast / Forecast System

An experimental real-time Ocean Nowcast/Forecast System has been developed for the Intra-Americas Sea (IASNFS). The area of coverage includes the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and the Straits of Florida. The system produces nowcast and up to 72 hours forecast the sea level variation, 3D ocean current, temperature and salinity fields.

WAVCIS (wave current surge information system) is a monitoring system in the Gulf of Mexico comprised of meteorological, oceanographic instruments mounted on oil platforms. The data are received at LSU via satellite. A second component of the data involves oceanographic and meteorological data computed using high-powered computers at LSU's Coastal Studies Institute, School of the Coast and Environment. Information is obtained from offshore on a real-time basis and is available worldwide on the web. Oil spill responders, State and Federal agencies are utilizing the data extensively.
