This section includes the data as well as the sampling and monitoring programs and plans. Please note that much of this sampling and monitoring is being undertaken for the purpose of the response. Plans and techniques are based on needs and may change with changing incident management circumstances.
Conditions encountered in the field may necessitate deviation from an event-specific plan to ensure collection of reliable data. Additionally, it is important to note that there are other agencies and organizations collecting data which is not directed by BP. That data is not discussed in this summary. Results and plans will be updated as they become available.

In some coastal regions of the United States, such as western Louisiana, offshore oil development has long been welcomed. In others, such as northern California, it has been vehemently opposed.
