The dynamic nature of the BP oil spill has been a challenge for a range of communities – from hotel operators to fishermen to local community leaders. We know the American people have questions about how the federal government is responding to this crisis, and we are committed to providing the answers with clarity and transparency. The site you’re viewing right now is a symbol of that commitment.
GeoPlatform.gov/gulfresponse is a new online tool that provides you with near-real time information about the response effort. Developed by NOAA with the EPA, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Department of Interior, the site offers you a “one-stop shop” for spill response information.
The site integrates the latest data the federal responders have about the oil spill’s trajectory with fishery area closures, wildlife data and place-based Gulf Coast resources — such as pinpointed locations of oiled shoreline and current positions of deployed research ships — into one customizable interactive map.

Gulf Future Campaign - GulfFuture.org

Gulf Future is a collaborative effort to raise awareness and increase public support for the communities along the Gulf coast affected by the BP oil drilling disaster. This campaign is the brainchild of the Gulf Coast Fund and the Gulf Restoration Network. In May, several folks from our two organizations took a tour of the devastation developing in the Gulf of Mexico and along the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Outraged and distressed by what we saw, and anticipating what the future might hold for these communities, GRN and GCF realized that nothing short of a nation-wide outcry about this catastrophe was necessary.
Thus the Gulf Future Campaign was formed. Our vision is a to mobilize supporters from across the nation to show their solidarity with the people of the Gulf Coast.

In response to consumer concerns about oil contaminated seafood from the Gulf of Mexico reaching the marketplace, Louisiana Sea Grant has produced a short video outlining the precautions taken to ensure tainted shell and finfish don't end up on the table. Media outlets wanting a copy of the video, or the audio file, should contact Roy Kron at rkron@lsu.edu. Several Louisiana Sea Grant personnel also have been trained to detect oil contaminated seafood and are available for interviews.

Since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill began in April, Smithsonian Collections staff have been using Google Earth to plot invertebrate holdings from the Gulf that were gathered from areas now affected by the spill. The collection is expected to provide an important baseline of understanding for future scientific studies on the spill’s impact.

PubChem provides information on the biological activities of small molecules. It is a component of NIH's Molecular Libraries Roadmap Initiative. PubChem is organized as three linked databases within the NCBI's Entrez information retrieval system. These are PubChem Substance, PubChem Compound, and PubChem BioAssay. Video shows federal officials knew quickly of potential for massive oil flow in Gulf spill

A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration video, shot as officials coordinated response to the Deepwater Horizon disaster, shows that federal officials almost immediately worried that the oil well could leak up to 110,000 barrels per day, or 4.6 million gallons.
It was filmed in Seattle, at NOAA's Western Regional Center, as scientists and federal officials in Seattle, Houston and New Orleans engaged in telephone conferences, according to a companion.
