French Children's Literature Collection
The French Children's Literature Collection, now housed in our Education Resources Library, is a result of the French Education Project, headed by Dr. Robert Lafayette. Though the collection was initially begun around 1989, the housing and maintenance of the collection was taken over by the Library and Information Science Library (a former branch of the LSU Libraries on the Baton Rouge campus of LSU) in the spring of 1992, where it remained until the absorption of this library into the main residence of the LSU Libraries at Middleton Library at the end of the summer, 1998. The collection currently consists of around 1000 titles and is one of, if not the largest such collection in the U.S. Since its inception, this collection has been the focal point of numerous national and international seminars. Through the continued efforts of Dr. Lafayette and the financial help of both the French and Belgian governments, our collection of French children's literature has been rapidly expanding. This collection has been and continues to be a valuable asset, both to faculty and students on this campus, as well as teachers of French in primary and secondary schools throughout the state.
Access to the French Children's Literature Collection
The French Children's Literature Collection may be used in the library by all patrons regardless of affiliations or lack thereof. Borrowing privileges, however, entail certain restrictions, depending on the category of the borrower. See our Borrowing Policies for a complete list and description of all categories of eligible borrowers from the LSU Libraries system. We do, however, try to make a special effort to make the collection accessible to French language teachers throughout the state, and towards this end have arranged for special Louisiana Teacher Support; thereby making the collection accessible to all who have need of it.
