Reference Librarian and Student Worker Supervisor

Summary of Duties:
30% General Reference duties include, but are not limited to: ordering supplies for the Reference department; creating reference desk schedules; scheduling the electronic classroom requests; scheduling library instruction requests (one-shots); maintaining statistics spreadsheets for classroom use, library instructional sessions (one-shots), and virtual reference; and processing new Reference materials.
25% Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating student
assistants working in Reference collection maintenance; includes the filing of
Reference resources and maintaining the Reference stacks; prepares timesheets for student workers; manages budget for the student assistants.
15% Provides general and specialized Reference and information services at the reference desk (may work nights and weekends in rotation); fill in for uncovered shifts at the Reference desk; participates in providing instant text messaging virtual reference service at the reference desk.
15% Assists Collection Development Services with various projects.
10% Provides instructional sessions for one-shot classes.
Required Qualifications:
Masters of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited library school program; undergraduate degree; ability to work in a flexible environment; excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; knowledge and experience with computer-based applications such as word processing and spreadsheets; at least one-year’s supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of traditional and electronic reference sources; experience in providing reference service in an academic environment.
