Library Associate 3
Under the broad supervision of the Coordinator of Technical Services for Special Collection, the incumbent provides administrative and technical support for Special Collections curators, as well as reference and information services to patrons.
40% Maintains and adds to the Libraries’ online catalog. Activities include copy and adaptive cataloging of current acquisitions; creation of OPR records for items purchased directly by the curators and transmission of invoices to Acquisitions for payment; transferring titles from the circulating collections to Special Collections
20% To support collection development, performs high-level pre-acquisition searching and verification for materials (including foreign language materials) selected by the curators; researches titles as needed; assists curators by identifying materials appropriate for acquisitions that are not covered by the YBP approval plan.
15% Supervises and trains student workers who perform preservation tasks and general stacks maintenance; compile statistics; and page and shelve books. Trains co-workers and graduate assistants to do catalog maintenance and other tasks.
15% Provides reference and information assistance to patrons in person and via telephone and email.
10% Prepares statistical reports, maintains donation files, and others duties as assigned.
Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; three to five years library experience or related experience.
Preferred: Experience working in an academic library, including cataloging and reference experience; supervisory experience; knowledge of MARC and AACR2; experience working with OCLC and SIRSI (or another integrated library system); reading knowledge of French and/or Spanish
