Research & Instruction Services Department/Government Documents
The Graduate Assistant (GA) program functions both to offer on-the-job training for future librarians and to provide the Libraries with part-time employees, who form a useful and necessary part of the staff of the LSU Libraries. Hours of work may be scheduled Monday through Sunday, and they will definitely include regular weekend desk shifts and some evenings.
Summary of duties: The Assistant will work an average of ten hours at Middleton Library’s main Research Desk, will participate in our virtual reference service, and, with a split appointment with the Government Documents Department, will work on projects related to government documents.
Salary: $12,000 for twelve-month appointment. This averages out to 83 1/3 hours of work per month, or 21 hours per week. This is subject to deductions for federal and state taxes. Graduate assistants are considered residents, for fee purposes only, and only for the period of their appointment. Full-time (20-hour per week) assistantship appointments will receive a full tuition exemption. Graduate assistants will still be responsible for fees.
Deadline to apply is December 9, 2013 with a start date in January 2014 before the start of the Spring 2014 classes (to be negotiated).
Applications should be submitted via the LSU Libraries Graduate Student Application: http://www.lib.lsu.edu/admin/gradasst/gradapplication.pdf.
