2002/2003 expenditures for books and serials without restricted monies totaled:
  • Books = $ 559,274.04
  • Serials = $ 3,012,360.89 (includes $2,202,782.40 from the state's 2002 Library Acquisitions and Scientific Equipment (LASE) allocation - one-time monies)

Restricted monies are funds deposited with the LSU Foundation. Most have restrictions on use.

2003/2004 estimated funds for books and serials without restricted monies totaled:

These figures include an estimated $600,000 expected from library revenue and indirect costs not yet received.
  • Books = $525,000 (includes $230,000 one-time funds to cover 2003 LASE shortfall)
  • Serials = $3,335,229 (includes $2,202,785 from the state's 2003 LASE allocation - one- time monies)
  • Total = $ 3,850,143 of which $2,432,785 is one-time money. The smaller amount consists of state funds from the machine-run budget and dollars from lapsed salaries, the indirect cost allocation, and revenue.
FY 03 - FY 04 Journal Inflation
In FY 03, the LASE allocation of $2,202,782.40 covered the following expenditures:
  • the total major serial vendor bill of $2,033,000
  • the University's commitment for Web of Knowledge support, and
  • $70,000 to go toward other existing subscriptions which totaled almost $900,000.
In FY 04, the LASE allocation of $2,202,785 left us with a $230,000 shortfall because it:
  • left the Libraries' a balance of $46,214.44 it had to cover because the total major serial vendor bill was
  • $2,248,999
  • covered none of the cost of Web of Knowledge at $112,540, and
  • provided no help for the additional $1 million for other journal subscriptions and databases.
Note: $230,000 was later restored by the university to amend for the shortfall
