Welcome to the LSU Libraries Online Catalog. Coverage & Access: Free access to the catalog is available through the LSU Libraries homepage http://www.lib.lsu.edu. The home page provides directions for LSU users to check their accounts online using their LSU ID and PIN. The catalog identifies materials in LSU Libraries such as: books, newspapers, journals, magazines, government publications, electronic indexes and databases, electronic books, electronic journals, videos, music scores, cassettes, CD-ROMS, maps and other cataloged items. Collections include materials from: Middleton (main library), Hill (Special Collections), Chemistry, Design Resource Center, and the Cartographic Information Center (maps) and Veterinary Medicine Library. Basic Search: To do a "Basic Search," enter your terms in the box provided on the LSU Libraries homepage, http://www.lib.lsu.edu. Pick "words or phrase," "author," "title," "subject," or "periodical title" from the drop-down box. A keyword search will be performed on the words you type, in the field you choose. Advanced Search: For an "Advanced Search," click on the link below the Basic Search box on the LSU Libraries homepage. This page is a quick guide to using the advanced search. As you scroll down this page, you will see an image of the Advanced Search screen. As you move your mouse over the page, new windows will open giving short explanations of the different features and search possibilities available with an advanced search. If you see an ellipsis (...) at the end of that explanation that means there is more information available through this guide. Simply click on that item and you will be taken to another page for more explanations, and / or for example searches.
