Introduction

The periodical title search is a very specific title search for finding the journals, newspapers, and magazines in the library’s collection.

Using Citation Info to Search

If, for example, you were recommended the following article for a research project on Influences in Caribbean Architecture: “Mikhail Baryshnikov on St. Barthelemy,” published in the August 1, 1990, issue of Architectural Digest, how would you go about finding it?

Click the Catalog tab on the library’s home page.

Select Periodical Title from the left drop-down menu and Browse from the right one. Type “Architectural Digest” in the text field and click Search.

The resulting alphabetical list shows the publication we are looking for on the second line. Clicking the title will reveal the two records associated with it.

Interpreting an Electronic Record

Note that one record is for an electronic publication. Click the title to see how far back the issues go. As you see, the coverage does not extend far enough backwards, so these links will not help us find our 1990 article. Click “Go Back” to return to the previous screen.

Interpreting a Print Record

Now click the title in the second record. Looking at “Library Has” indicates the collection includes this periodical in print from 1964 to 2012. This is where you will find your article. Make note of the call number.

Bound periodicals can be checked out, the same as books.
