There are several libraries on campus, the main library (Middleton), special collections (Hill Memorial Library), the map library (Cartographic Information Center), and two other subject specialized libraries, the Law Library and the Veterinary Medicine Library. We will focus on the materials available from our main library in this tutorial.
The web page on the right displays all the different departments and units within the LSU Libraries. Click on "LSU Libraries" in the purple bar to get to our main web page.
Library Resources Include:
Middleton Computer Labs
There are several hundred computers available, both Macs and PC's. The two main labs are in room 141 and in room 241. There are also laptops and I-Pads available for checkout from the circulation desk. The majority of campus is wireless, and print jobs can be sent directly from laptops.
Finding Your Way Around
A self guided tour is available from the Reference Department's website. To get there, click on "Departments" from the purple bar, then "Reference." Once you are on the Reference web page, click on "Reference Handouts." From here, click on "Self-Guided Walking Tour."
Checking out Materials
Hit the back button to get back to the handouts page. From this page, you will also find a link to a handout entitled "How to Check Out Materials."
You WILL need your LSU ID card for any of these transactions.
Middleton Circulation Policies
Different groups of users have different checkout periods.
Undergraduates = 1 month Graduate Students = 90 days Faculty = 1 semester

If you’re in the library, stop by Reference Services on the first floor of Middleton Library. Here, you can nearly always find a librarian willing to answer your questions and give you some guidance with your research.
Conduct research off-campus
To see the electronic materials that are available remotely, click on the "LSU Libraries" again in the purple bar. This will take you back to the main Middleton Library website. From this page, you can click on "Databases" to see the list of resources you will be able to access. The databases are in two categories, by subject, and frequently used databases. See this tutorial for more information on selecting a database.
Access books & articles NOT at LSU
Faculty, students, and staff can use the Interlibrary Borrowing service. The form can be found by clicking on "Departments" and then "Interlibrary Loan." If you have never used this service before, and would like to set up and account, click on "Set-up an ILLiad Account."
Graduate students and faculty members can also use Ingenta to order articles from periodicals not owned by LSU.
Other Library Services
Include Government Documents in the basement of Middleton Library, Music Resources, Education Resources and the Oral History Center. Links to all of these units can be found on the LSU Libraries Departments and Units web page.
