The LSU Libraries' forum is part of the campuswide celebration (The Dream) whose theme is,
"We can never be satisified ... because injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied to in a single garment of destiny."

The Martin Luther King, Jr. planning committee has developed four main points that we would like the panelists to consider beforehand and address in a dialouge with each other and the audience at the forum.
Questions to be considered during the presentation
People | Profiles | Topics | Questions Posed
1.What are several key factors that contribute to violence in our society and how are your organizations or professions directly addressing them?
2.How does our community compare with the rest of the nation in positive efforts and programs to combat violence?
3.What are the ways individuals can become invovled wihter within or outside of community organizations?
4.Is there a local need for centralization of community groups to increase awareness of existing programs, enhance public relations, and increase funding efforts?

A corresponding exhibition, Sugar at LSU: Archiving the Past, Researching the Future, curated by Debbie Currie and Christina Riquelmy, is on display.
The section prepared by Christina Riquelmy highlights the LSU Libraries' Special Collections holdings and traces the history
of cane sugar production in Louisiana from the 1700s to the early 1900s. The section prepared by Debbie Currie covers the
history of the Audubon Sugar School and its continuing contribution to improving production of sugarcane in Louisiana,
outlining the growth and mechanization of the industry in the 20th century. The exhibition also features actual implements
used in harvesting cane and making sugar, as well as a beautiful afghan designed by Cile Schmidt of Ashland Plantation,
called "Sugar Country." Many photographs, both historic and modern, are included.
