    1. History-Specific Indexes

      America: History and Life **
      Includes bibliographic citations and abstracts covering the historical literature of the United States and Canada from prehistoric times to the present. Sources include journals, books, dissertations, and book reviews.

      Historical Abstracts **
      Indexes and abstracts scholarly literature on the history of the world, excluding the United States and Canada, from 1450 to the present.

      History Reference Center (full text)
      Full text history reference database covering U.S. and world history. Includes periodical articles, historical documents, historical photos and maps, and biographies of historical figures. Geared primarily towards undergraduate researchers.

    2. General Indexes and Abstracts

      These databases contain citations to literature in history journals as well as in journals covering other disciplines. Some databases are full text.

      Arts and Humanities Citation Index
      Indexes 1,414 of the world's top-tier arts and humanities journals.

      Ingenta (some full text)
      Contains over 19 million citations from more than 29,000 journals covering a range of disciplines. Ingenta allows LSU users to link to the full text of articles in journals to which LSU Libraries has subscription rights.

      JSTOR (full text)
      Interdisciplinary, full text archive of over six hundred journals in the arts, humanities, and the social sciences. JSTOR is not a current issues database. Full text coverage of indexed journals generally begins five years before the current issue.

      PAIS Archive
      The PAIS Archive database is the online version of the PAIS Annual Cumulated Bulletin, Volumes 1-62, published 1915-1976. Providing historical perspectives on many of the 20th century's public and social policies, the PAIS Archive provides references to monographs, periodicals articles, notes and announcements, and analytics.

      PAIS International
      Provides references to more than 553,300 journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, conference reports, and publications of international agencies. Newspapers and newsletters are not indexed. Some indexed materials are in Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese.

      Project Muse (full text)
      Provides full text access to over 350 top-tier, heavily indexed, and widely held journals in the humanities and social sciences.

    3. Specialized History Indexes
      Indexes for selected disciplines of historical study.

      Produced by an editorial team at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, Index Islamicus indexes literature in European languages on all aspects of Islam and the Muslim world.

      Iter - Medieval and Renaissance History

        Newspaper Source
        Offers selected full text coverage of nearly 30 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. The database also contains selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers.

        Accessible Archives
        Provides access to primary source material from 18th and 19th century American newspapers and periodicals. Includes large collection of 19th century African American newspapers.

        America's Historical Newspapers
        Allows users to search more than 1,000 historical American newspapers published between 1690 and 1922 in all 50 states. Features scanned, searchable images of original newspaper pages.

        Harpweek (Harper's Weekly)
        Contains full text, scanned images of Harper's Weekly during the Civil War era (1857-1865) and part of the Reconstruction Era (1866-1871).

        Historical Chicago Defender
        Covering the years 1909-1975, the Historical Chicago Defender contains the complete text of the influential African American newspaper, cover-to-cover, with full-page and article images in PDF format.

        Kennedy Assassination Newspaper Articles Archive
        Provides access to newspaper materials pertaining to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Covers the period just prior to Kennedy's assassination, the assassination itself, and the immediate aftermath of the assassination and presidential funeral.

        Palmer's Full Text Online 1785-1870
        Provides full text access to articles in the London Times. Full indexes are available for articles published between 1790-1905 and page images for articles published between 1800-1870.

      Provides a comprehensive set of American books, pamphlets and broadsides published in the early part of the 19th century. It is based on the noted -American Bibliography, 1801-1819- by Ralph R. Shaw and Richard H. Shoemaker.

      Early English Books Online
      Contains digitized facsimile pages of almost every work printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and British North America and works printed elsewhere in English between 1473 and 1700.

      Medieval and Early Modern Sources Online (MEMSO)
      Features scanned, digitized images of a range of medieval and early modern British and Irish sources from c. 1000 to c. 1800.

    LSU Libraries Special Collections
    Special Collections comprises more than 200,000 volumes of published works, 10 million manuscript items, 200,000 historic photographs, 16,000 reels of newspaper microfilm, hundreds of oral histories, and other diverse materials for research. The Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley Collections (LLMVC) is exceptionally rich in materials concerning Louisiana history.
